2.
In order to provide a variety of performances, we are
limiting the number of submissions to two per
company/choreographer. The selection committee will begin by
choosing one piece from each company/choreographer. This piece
will be chosen based on artistic merit. If a
company/choreographer does not submit a completed work, they
will not be accepted into the performance. If the selection
committee feels the concert needs more pieces to fill the
expected length of the show, then they will begin a process of
selecting second pieces to be performed.
3.
The maximum time for each work submitted is 12 minutes.
It is the responsibility of the choreographer to meet this
requirement.
4.
Each company/organization must agree to participate in a
technical rehearsal prior to the show as well as perform in the
show on October 16-17, 2009. Tech rehearsals will begin on
Thursday, October 15th. There will be a dress rehearsal
either Thursday, October 15th or during the day on Friday,
October 16th (depending upon scheduling).
5.
It is the responsibility of the company/choreographer to
obtain and secure all appropriate and necessary licenses and
permissions prior to bringing any choreography to the concert.
6.
Choreographer will provide 2 CD’s of concert quality. The
song being used should be the only song on the CD.
Please send CD, upon acceptance, to Christine Bergeron; 3709
Sweetbriar Drive; Bryan, TX 77802 by September 30th .
7.
All participants must be prepared to work within the
limitations of the theater. Theatre spaces for dance in
limited in the Brazos Valley so be prepared for some
limitations. This space is a studio that converts into a theatre
space. There are 3 wings, with side light (shin and
mid/high), front of house, 2 specials, back light and a few high
diagonals. There is a cross over space for dancers.
The space seats around 100 but this year we are in a space with
no poles!
The lighting and sound equipment are limited so please be
understanding during Technical Rehearsal. There is a studio next
to the theatre to use as a dressing
room. We want to include a wide spectrum of
contemporary dance and we expect a large number of participants,
so please be understanding and considerate of the use of space.
8.
If you would like your video returned prior to the day of
the performance please include a self addressed/stamped envelope
with your application packet.
9.
The ABDC Company does not have insurance. All
participants need to submit a Liability Waiver Form. Each
dancer must have this form completed and returned in order to
participate.
10.
ABDC likes to engage the audience in a question and
answer sessions after our performances. This allows
the audience to learn more about dance as an art form and how we
go from creation to production. Choreographers or Artistic
Directors who would like to participate will move to the stage
after the last performance. We will be taking open
questions from the audience. You are not required to
participate in this process but it is always informative to the
community.
11.
ABDC will publicize the event and coordinate overall
press relations including interviews & critic attendance at
performances (if they choose to attend). You will be
asked, upon acceptance, to submit a publicity photo that is
representative of the work and/or company as well as
descriptions of your work. We will also be asking for
materials about your company/choreographer to have in the lobby.
12.
COMPENSATION: ABDC cannot compensate guest artists.
ABDC agrees to cover expenses for advertising, public relations,
promotion, printing, programs, theatre rental, lighting
designer, stage manager, technical crew etc. Guest Artists must
be prepared to cover all other costs related to the performance
presentation of their own work, such as transportation,
lodging, costumes, music recording, set construction, etc.
13.
COMPLIMENTARY TICKETS –Complimentary tickets for the
performance are not available for any of the artists performing.
Comp tickets are only available to relevant media and sponsors
due to an extremely limited seating capacity of approx. 100 chairs.
Instead, a limited number of discounted tickets will be
available. Each company/artist appearing can name a
maximum total of 6 people (across all shows, not per show) who
will be allowed to purchase a ticket at a discounted rate of $5
instead of $10.
14.
Choreographers and performers can sit in the audience as
space permits and as is appropriate. Performers cannot go
in and out of the audience during the show, but could choose to
watch the other "half" that they are not in.
Choreographers and performers should assume that they may need
to stand in the back of the house, and should not take a seat
until they are certain that all patrons have been seated.
15.
VIDEOTAPING – All choreographers are welcome to video
their own works during spacing and dress rehearsals. There
will be limited space to set up video cameras during
performance, and ABDC will try to do a wide shot of the whole
stage. We will be happy to send you a DVD of your work for
a minimal fee of $10 to cover shipping and the cost of the DVD.
