The
company is dedicated to supporting the arts through several outreach
programs.
Art and
Improv
The
company guides viewers through art galleries around the city connecting
movement with visual art in our Art and Improv activity. Through a
lecture/demonstration the company improvises phrases and short “dances”
based on their inspiration from the artwork. In preparation for this
event, the company enters the exhibit and answers questions about line,
design, form, light, space, texture and color and how each element
connects movement and the work.
Sketching Dance
Sketching Dance
is an
informal performance that is held to give the audience an inside look at
how dances are made. The audience has an opportunity to see what happens
in a rehearsal and through the dance making process as well as speak
with the choreographers and dancers in a relaxed and open setting.
Visit
with the Artists
Following each ABDC performance, the audience is given a a chance to
respond to the dances they have just seen through our
Visit
with the Artist panel. This immediate response allows the audience
to be active in the critical process and walk away from the concert with
answers to some questions they may have. This program educates audience
members of all ages on modern dance, its creative process and its role
in society.
National
Dance Week Community Performance
NDW
Community Performance
is an
opportunity for ABDC to promote and support the art of dance in the
community. This concert is comprised of university and community based
dance organizations/companies/ schools. This performance provides an
opportunity for dancers of all ages and levels to come together to
celebrate dance. This concert allows the audience to view a wealth of
dance that exists in our community.

dance, pilates, yoga, improvisation, partnering and composition for all
